Do you want to improve the metrics and user experience of an app? For that you need to know what AB testing is and how to use it. Imagine this situation: You have or manage an app that was working great in terms of conversion, but you decide to make a major change to the payment plans without testing. The result? The numbers start to plummet, and you realize you made a big mistake. How to avoid it? For those tests, the best thing to do is to do an AB Testing first and check with 50% of your users which option works best. Then, if the result is positive, you apply it to the rest. This way, you reduce the risk. If you want to know more about AB testing for apps you can continue reading the post or if you prefer, easier, we tell you about it in video. Press Play!

What is AB Testing

AB Testing is a technique that allows you to compare two versions of your application to determine which one works best to meet specific objectives. It is like a controlled experiment that gives us valuable information on how to improve the user experience and increase the performance of the application. For example, if you want to test a new price for subscriptions in your app, but you are not sure of the impact, you can create a variant of the current subscription screen and show it to a selected group of users to evaluate their response.

How to do AB Testing for Apps

  1. The AB testing process involves several key steps:
  2. Identify the objective of your test: do you want to improve retention, increase conversion or another specific objective?
  3. Divide your users into two random groups: Group A and Group B.
  4. Implement variant B with the modification you want to test in Group B.
  5. Collect and analyze relevant data, such as retention and conversion rates.
  6. Evaluate results and make data-driven decisions to optimize the app.

AB Testing Tools for Apps

There are multiple tools to perform AB tests in apps. We could mention a lot of them, but we have selected these two:

  • Firebase A/B Testing: The free tool par excellence for apps (it is from Google), which allows you to perform tests in a simple and effective way. It is the right tool if you are starting with your app and you still do not have much budget to invest in this type of functionality. It is not the most intuitive, but it is the cheapest.
  • Optimizely: is a paid tool that offers advanced functionalities for AB testing. Much more complete and intuitive.

Important note: if you want to do AB testing with the elements of your app’s listing in Google Play and App Store, then we explain that in this video.
