Mistakes to avoid when creating an app

How to know if my app is a good idea

Do you think that just by having a good idea you will get millions of downloads of your app?

Or that once you invest in the development of an app and it is published on Google Play and the App Store, the work is over?

Well, no.

After working with more than 450 apps over the last 14 years, we refute the main beliefs and myths about mobile apps that are more false than a €1 note.

If you want to avoid falling into the trap, read on.

At Actualízatec over the years we have seen it all.

But there are 3 main MYTHS or BELIEFS about apps that we have seen all too often and that continue to cause many businesses to fail.

The first one: “I have a cool idea, I program a good app, and … I’ll get a lot of downloads”.

How easy!

That’s in a Yuppie world.

If that were the case, we wouldn’t have so much work.

First point: How do you know what is a good idea? Is it just because you think so, or have you validated it with your target audience, who will actually use it?

Because let’s not kid ourselves, you’re not going to use it.

Having a good idea means nothing. A good idea is worth nothing.

Even less so if you do not validate it with your target audience.

That is, with the users who will use the app in the future.

And here comes the big question…

How do I validate whether my app is viable or not?

It is very hard, complicated and time-consuming work.

But validating your idea with your target audience is possible.

At Actualízatec we have a proven method that allows you to validate your app idea without investing a single € in development.

And all customers (and we) come out of each validation process amazed. So yes, it can be done.

Doing this type of market research well will bring you many benefits:

You will have the opportunity to know first-hand what the public thinks. Without nice words, without being told by a friend or acquaintance who always tells you what you want to hear. If you don’t like it, you don’t like it.

You can spot functionalities that are not worth investing in because no one values them.

You will know which features of the app are the most popular, the most powerful and therefore the ones you have to highlight in the app’s communication, with the words that the audience themselves have told you.

Still don’t believe what this can do for you?

Our recommendation, after a lot of initial beating ourselves up and seeing clients arriving late, is:

Validate first, programme later.

Mistakes when creating an app: development is not everything

What is the second BIG BELIEF ABOUT APPS?

Thinking that we have to invest only in development.

“I invest a good amount in developing the initial app and then I forget about it”.

An app is not a one-shot product, it is alive, it must evolve.

In the beginning the ideal is to take out a PMV and then grow it.

Why?

Well, because it should be updated at least twice a year with OS updates to start with.

If not, you are left behind.

In addition to the fact that there may be bugs unexpected, or even crashes.

And be careful because these crashes or bugs can occur even if you haven’t touched the app.

That is, you publish it and then a new version of iOS or a new iPhone comes out and the app that was perfect before, works terribly with those new devices and you start getting bad reviews.

In addition, in order to ASO is also key.

If you don’t know what ASO is and why it’s important to work on it if you have an App, in our FREE ASO course we tell you what it is and everything you need to know to position your app.

It is very important to keep in mind that having an application is not just a matter of launching it on the market and that’s it!

You must promote it with campaigns and invest in ASO so that it appears at the top of Google Play and App Store. Otherwise, your app will be so low that no one will find it.

And how much budget should be invested in marketing?

I always say that you should invest at least the same amount of money in an app to make it known as you do in developing it.

What’s the point of having a super-powerful app if no one knows about it?

Apps don’t just exist for end users

Let’s go for the third MYTH or typical error:

“Apps only make sense for the end user”.

An app can be a very powerful loyalty tool, not only for B2C end-users, but also for employees or B2B businesses.

Investing in an app as an internal tool for your business or supplier management (for example), can considerably increase the consideration of your employees and suppliers towards your brand.

In addition to being able to greatly optimise the company’s processes and productivity.

Examples?

Think Glovo, Deliveroo, Uber Driver or Cabify Driver or any app that has an end-user app on one side and a delivery driver app on the other.

The end-user app aims to allow the user to book their meal or home delivery.

The app for suppliers aims to help them manage all orders and deliveries as quickly and efficiently as possible.

There are other apps that can function more as loyalty tools, such as SEAT’s ONETRIBE app for its own employees.

They are informed of all the company’s news, have gamification games, can carry out procedures and communicate with the company.

Here are the 3 main myths about apps so that you DON’T believe them and don’t fall for them.

And I assure you, if you get good advice and create the app that your audience and business needs, it will be a success.
